Description:
The transmission electron microscope (TEM) is an instrument that uses an electron beam to be able to observe very small structures, at the nanometer level (a million times smaller than a millimeter). The resolving power of a TEM (i.e. the minimum distance for which two points meetcan distinguish as distinct and not as one) is about 500,000 times greater than that of the human eye. The TEM has a column in which a high vacuum is maintained by means of pumps, so that the electron beam, generated by a source, is not deflected in its path by atoms and ionsthose present in the air. Since electrons have a wavelength not included in the visible spectrum, the image obtained from the interaction between the beam and the sample is formed on a fluorescent screen, resulting finally visible to the human eye, or acquired by a revealed41042ad53247f54a3e573a8c87482365signal source and transmitted to a monitor.
