- Tenders are invited for Isolation Latch Valve The Gateway is a multi-element infrastructure designed to support both robotic and human exploration of cis-lunar space and act as a ‘basecamp- for sustained lunar exploration. The Lunar Gateway is smaller than the ISS and will require less launches for its assembly. It is intended to be occupied by a crew of up to four astronauts for periods ranging from two weeks to two months, but otherwise operates as a robotic spacecraft. The Gateway - European System Providing Refueling Infrastructure and Telecommunication (ESPRIT) is ESA-s c ontribution of an infrastructure element supporting the Gateway with refueling, logistic and telecommunication functions (this latter function will be provided with a different element that will reach Gateway at a different time). The ESPRIT includes contributions from USA, and Canada. Thales Alenia Space UK as a core team member, and Thales Alenia Space France, prime contractor for the programme, have been contracted by the European Space Agency (ESA) for the realization of the ESPRIT module for the new Lunar Orbital Platform Gateway. Under a subcontract, Thales Alenia Space UK is responsible for the Bi-Propellant Transfer system (BTS), a system refuelling the chemical propulsion system of the Lunar Gateway. The objective of the present procurement is the selection of the subcontractor for the Isolation Latch Valve to enable the control of liquids and gases in the subsystem in propellant transfer, pressurisation and venting operations. The procurement of the Isolation Latch Valve will be conducted in line with the “ESA Best Practices for the Selection of Subcontractors by Prime Contractors in the frame of ESA-s Major Procurements” (reference ESA BEST PRACTICES IPC(2012)65, rev.2).
