Description:
Building on the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC)-s ‘Burden of Communicable Disease in Europe- study and referring to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH)-s ‘Global Burden of Animal Diseases (GBADs) programme-, the aim of this four-year project is to develop, in a One Health framework, a methodology and next measure and report on the burden of zoonoses (zDALYs) in the EU, of nine specified zoonoses (campylobacteriosis, salmonellosis, listeriosis, infection with Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC), tuberculosis due to Mycobacterium bovis and M. caprae, brucellosis, trichinellosis, echinococcosis, and yersiniosis). Additionally, economic costs as a consequence of ill health in people and animals that are not considered in the zDALYs metric need to be explored and estimated.
